Introduction
With the emergence of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-based technologies, and the increasing use of these tools, the Journal of Political Studies Cognition Research has formulated this policy statement to ensure transparency and provide guidance for its authors, reviewers, editors, and readers. This policy will be continuously reviewed and updated to keep pace with technological advancements and best practices.
A) For Authors
Use of Generative AI in Academic Writing: The use of artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-based technologies in the article writing process is permitted only for the purpose of improving the readability and language quality of the work. Authors must bear in mind that they are ultimately responsible for the accuracy and validity of the article's content. Therefore, the use of AI must be conducted under human supervision and control. Authors are obligated to carefully review and edit AI-generated outputs, as they may contain inaccurate, incomplete, or biased information.
Disclosure of AI Use: Authors must transparently declare the use of AI and related technologies in their submitted manuscript.
No Attribution of Authorship to AI: Artificial intelligence and AI-based technologies cannot be listed as an author or co-author. Authorship entails responsibilities and duties that can only be performed by humans.
Images and Artwork: The use of AI to create or alter images in submitted articles is not permitted. The only exception is when the use of AI constitutes a part of the research design or methodology. In such cases, it must be fully explained in the Methods section. The use of AI to produce artwork (such as graphical abstracts) is not allowed, except with prior permission from the journal editor and assurance of full compliance with intellectual property rights.
B) For Reviewers
Confidentiality: Reviewers must treat submitted manuscripts as confidential documents and refrain from uploading them or any portion of them into generative AI tools. Such action could violate the authors' confidentiality and intellectual property rights.
No Use of AI in the Review Process: The peer review process requires critical thinking and original assessment, which are beyond the capabilities of current AI technologies. Therefore, reviewers must not use AI to assist in the scientific evaluation of manuscripts.
C) For Editors
Confidentiality: Editors are also obligated to treat submitted manuscripts and all related communications as confidential documents.
No Use of AI in the Evaluation Process: Editors must not use AI to assist in the evaluation or decision-making process for manuscripts, as this process requires critical thinking and original human judgment.
D) AI-Based Technologies Used by the Journal
The Journal of Political Studies Cognition Research currently uses the "Samim Noor Similarity Detection System" for manuscript screening (e.g., for plagiarism check). The journal is continuously seeking to evaluate and employ new technologies that can improve the publishing process and assist authors, reviewers, and editors, while adhering to the principles of data confidentiality and privacy.
