This study aims to analyze the consequences of the redefinition of motherhood within the framework of cognitive warfare and its impact on the decline in fertility among Iranian women. Employing a qualitative approach and thematic analysis, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 15 women of reproductive age and analyzed through open, axial, and selective coding. The theoretical framework of the research integrates three perspectives—social constructivism, liberal/radical feminism, and cognitive warfare-in order to provide a multi-layered understanding of the conceptual, discursive, and cognitive transformation of the maternal role. Findings reveal that the notion of motherhood has undergone a significant semantic shift in the minds of many participants, evolving from a respected and identity-defining role to one perceived as restrictive, burdensome, and even counterproductive. Media narratives have played a central role in this transformation by portraying mothers as exhausted and marginalized, glorifying childless women as empowered and successful, and framing motherhood through lenses of depression, regression, and social invisibility. This redefinition is not merely a product of structural or cultural change but is interpreted as the outcome of a targeted cognitive operation leveraging feminist discourses and media framing tools. The study concludes that effective responses to fertility decline must go beyond economic incentives and encompass strategic interventions in cultural discourse, cognitive resilience, and the restoration of the symbolic and social value of motherhood.
